MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Memphis men's tennis squad continues to turn in great summer results, as Daniel Shidler and KC Griffin combined to win an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Summer Circuit event last weekend at Oklahoma University. Shidler and Griffin knocked off competitors Cale Hammond (Duke) and Logan Collins (Marquette) in an 8-6 victory in the main draw finals to claim the doubles crown. Griffin also made the semifinals of the singles draw before losing to Collins 13-11 in the third set super tiebreaker. "This is a great results for Daniel and KC," head coach Paul Goebel said. "They've both been putting in hard work, and it's nice to see it pay off." The duo will team up again for one more ITA Summer Circuit Doubles event next week in Indiana before returning to Memphis to prepare for the 2011-12 campaign. Joe Salisbury also had a strong outing recently, finishing as the runner up in the AEGON British Tour Ilkley. Salisbury won four consecutive matches in the event before losing 6-2,6-4 to world-ranked Kyle Brassington in the finals. "Joe has been competing in some extremely competitive events this summer," Goebel said. "He's working hard and getting a lot of solid results."
