Go Tigers!

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - - The University of Memphis men's tennis team opens its fall slate on Sept. 21st at the University of Virginia tournament, but the Tigers know they will open the fall with two nationally-ranked singles players and one ranked doubles tandem.

Sophomore David O'Leary (Coventry, England/Loughborough College) will start the fall as the No. 82 ranked singles player in the country after earning Conference USA first team all-conference honors last season as a freshman. He was 22-1 in singles play last year, winning 21 straight matches to begin his career as a Tiger. In the 22 victories last year in dual play, only two went to a third set. O'Leary's only loss of the season last year was to No. 23 Tulsa's Tristan Jackson in the Conference USA championship finals. He spent three weeks in the ITA rankings last year after joining the Tigers in January from his native England. With the national ranking, O'Leary will get to bypass the prequalifying singles draw at the ITA All-American Championships and will instead open in the qualifying draw on Oct. 1st.

Also ranked on the national singles list is sophomore Connor Glennon (Loughborough, England/Loughborough College). The C-USA Co-Freshman of the Year and an all-C-USA first team honoree in both singles and doubles last year, Glennon starts his sophomore campaign as the No. 106 ranked singles player in the country. As a freshman, he posted a 17-5 mark in singles and a 13-6 record in doubles in his first collegiate semester. He was also ranked in three singles polls last year, including a personal-best ranking of No. 91 in March. Like O'Leary, Glennon will be able to bypass the prequalifying draw at the ITA All-American Championships, and will open his singles schedule in the qualifying draw on Oct. 1-3rd.

In doubles, Glennon will team with junior David O'Hare (Dublin, Ireland/Colaiste Eoin) to begin the 2012-13 season as the No. 37 ranked doubles team in the country. The imposing duo (Glennon stands 6-4, O'Hare is 6-5) will be teamed together for the first time this season, as O'Hare's doubles partner from last season, David Henry, graduated. Two Tigers tandems will participate in the qualifying doubles round at the All-American Championships. The duo of Glennon and O'Hare will be joined by teammates Joe Salisbury (London, England/Surrey State) and O'Leary in the qualifying doubles draw.

Four Tigers will start their respective runs in the ITA All-American from the prequalifying draw - juniors Johnny Grimal (Barcelona, Spain/I.E.S. Lluis Companys), Cedric DeZutter (Eeklo, Belgium/College OLV ten Doorn), O'Hare and Salisbury will all start in the prequalifying draw, Sept. 29-30th at the University of Tulsa.

The University of Memphis is coming off its first-ever team appearance in the NCAA tennis championships. The Tigers open the fall at the University of Virginia on Sept. 21st and will host one of the premier fall collegiate tennis events in October when they host the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Championships, Oct. 18-22 at The Racquet Club of Memphis.
