Men's Tennis to Open Fall Season at MTSU Fall Invitational

The University of Memphis men's tennis team will venture to central Tennessee in order to open the fall schedule at the Middle Tennessee Fall Invitational, which begins Friday morning. The tournament is smaller than years past, featuring eight teams (Austin Peay, Belmont, Memphis, Morehead State, Mississippi State, Middle Tennessee, Louisville and Western Kentucky). Senior Amrit Narasimhan will play in the Championship Singles Flight, earning the No. 3 seed in the draw. He will open against Mississippi State's Pjotrs Necajevs, Friday. A trio of Tigers will compete in the A1 Singles Flight, with Benny Fischer facing Belmont's Fausto Rocha with the winner taking on Joao Paoliello of Middle Tennessee in the quarterfinal round. Jimmy Khougassian will face Austin Peay's Lucas de Brito, while Charlie Ramsay received a first round bye and will play the winner of the Javier Rodrizguez (Belmont)/Christopher Doerr (Mississippi State) match. In Flight A2 singles, Michael Gaerthoeffner will suit up in a Tiger uniform for the first time. The freshman will face Austin Peay's Patrick Puertolas on Friday. Sophomore Spencer Heflin will play in the A3 singles bracket and will open his 2007-08 season against Western Kentucky's David Bowman on Friday. On the doubles side, the Tigers will have seniors Amrit Narasimhan and Jimmy Khougassian will face the host team of Joeo Paoliello and Richard Cowden of Middle Tennessee in A1 Doubles, while German tandem of Benedikt Fischer and Michael Gaerthoeffner will open against Austin Peay's Francisco La Peunte and Darrenn Tallent in A2 doubles. Tennessee natives Charlie Ramsay and Spencer Heflin will team together and receive a first round bye in A2 doubles, and will await the winners of the Alex McCann/Marc Boiron (MTSU) vs. Thomas Krug/Currie Martin (WKU) match.
