Men's Tennis Claims Three Titles Sunday
Sept. 18, 2005 MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Led by junior Garrison Pilant (Dallas, Texas) and freshman Matt Brewer (Memphis, Tenn.), the Tiger men's tennis team claimed three of the five finals titles in competition on Sunday. Pilant factored into a pair of Tiger victories, as he won the B2 Singles Consolation title with a decisive 6-0, 6-0 win over Indiana State's Bob Briscoe for his first collegiate singles title. Pilant also teamed with Michael Jetter to win the B1 Doubles Championship with a 9-8 (3) victory over the team of Ivan Besancon and Mauricio Campos of Freed-Hardeman Sunday morning. Jetter would also compete for a singles championship, but fell in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 6-0, to Francisco Redondo, also of Freed Hardeman, in the A3 singles championship. Also on the consolation side, freshman Matt Brewer won his first collegiate singles title with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Middle Tennessee's Greg Pollack in the A2 Consolation singles match. Sophomore Bryan Bankester was also a finalist for the Tigers, having teamed with Indiana State's Rishi Behi to advance to the A2 doubles finals, where the tandem fell to Chattanooga's Mark Fynn and Josh Bales, 8-6. Memphis will continue its fall schedule at the Virginia Fall Classic next weekend.
