Memphis, Tenn. -- - Six members of the University of Memphis men's tennis team have qualified for the Southern Collegiate Championships to be held on the campus of the University of Georgia, Sept. 29-Oct. 2.

The Southern Collegiate Championships are a four-day event featuring four flights of singles play and three doubles flights, with action beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Roughly 200 players from 33 schools will be participating.

The tournament draw will be announced Wednesday and the Tigers will leave Thursday for the tournament.

Participating in this year's tournament will be sophomore Joe Schmulian (1-1), junior Richard Magney (2-1), sophomore Ben Stapp (1-2), senior Alistair Todd (5-2), junior Michael LaHaie (1-1) and junior Michael Chamberlain (2-1).

The six will also participate in the doubles portion of the tournament with the tandem of Schmulian and Chamberlain (3-1) will team up again after advancing to the A finals of last weekend's Middle Tennessee State tournament.

The team of Todd and Stapp (1-1), which finished 20-6 last spring, will also participate in doubles play, depending on Todd's injury status. The senior strained an oblique muscle in the B singles championship match at MTSU last weekend and is questionable for this weekend.

LaHaie and Magney will make up the third Tiger doubles team.
