Sept. 28, 2011
By: Chaundrea Lee MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Eight players from the Memphis men's tennis team are preparing to compete this week in two different events. Four Tigers have been invited to play in the 2011 ITA Men's All-American Championships and four others will play in the UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic. The Tigers are coming off of a combined 21-1 singles record and 12-0 doubles record from the Dale Short Shootout last weekend at MTSU. Tiger senior, Leon Nasemen, and sophomores, David O'Hare, Joe Salisbury, and Johnny Grimal will begin play on Friday in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the 2011 ITA Men's All-American Championships. The championships conclude on October 7. Grimal won the singles flight championship last weekend, while O'Hare and Salisbury teamed together to win the doubles championship. "Our guys have another great opportunity this weekend," said Memphis head coach Paul Goebel, who will travel with the team to Tulsa. "We hope to build on the momentum that we gained this past weekend at MTSU. These fall tournaments give us a chance to continue to improve on our skills." Assistant coach Mark Finnegan and players Cedric de Zutter, K.C. Griffin, David Henry, and Daniel Shidler will be closer to home as they travel to Chattanooga for the weekend to compete in the UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic. The tournament begins on Friday and runs for three days through the weekend.
