Walker came back from a 7-6 first set loss to down Rice's Vuk Rajevac, 6-3, 6-2 in the second and third sets to advance to a second-round match-up with Troy State's Emir Basic. Basic also came back from a first set loss, 6-2, to win the second and third sets 6-1, 6-2 over Georgia Tech's Jack DePaolo. Spence used a straight set, 6-4, 6-4, win over Baylor's Jon Reckewey to advance to a second-round match against Virginia Tech's No. 1 singles player, Stephane Rod. Rod overcame a 6-3 first set loss to Albano Franco from Georgia State to win sets two and three 6-3 and 6-2. Bucewicz was another three-set victor, dropping his first set 6-3 to Minnesota's Brian Lipinski, before storming back for a 6-0, 6-2 win to advance to a second round match-up with Butler's Kevin Gill.
