MEMPHIS - - The University of Memphis men's tennis team hosts some of the top college tennis players in the country this weekend as part of the USTA ITA Ohio Valley Regional that begins at The Racquet Club of Memphis, Friday.

The Ohio Valley Regional is a strong one in collegiate tennis, consisting of nine teams that qualified for the 64-team field at the NCAA team tournament last season. Teams participating this weekend who also were in the NCAA's last year include East Tennessee, Eastern Kentucky, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. Other teams participating in this weekend's regional hail from Austin Peay, Ball State, Belmont, Butler, Dayton, IUPUI, Lipscomb, Murray State, Tennessee Tech, Wright State and Xavier.

The tournament opens Friday with three rounds of doubles and one round of singles play. The morning will open with doubles play at 8:30 a.m. Tennessee's John Collins and Mikelis Libietis are the top seed in the doubles draw, followed by the No. 2 seeded team of Tom Jomby and Kevin Lai from Kentucky. Both of those duos will receive a first round bye and will open play in the Round of 32. The host team has the No. 3 seeded duo, as the Memphis team of Connor Glennon and David O'Hare start the tourney with a first round bye and will begin their run at 10:30 a.m., Friday, in the Round of 32. The Vanderbilt team of Rhys Johnson and Ryan Lipman are the No. 4 seed in the doubles draw, and will open their schedule in the Round of 32 at 11 a.m., Friday.

Following three rounds of Friday doubles will be the one round of singles. Kentucky's Anthony Rossi is the No. 1 seed in the singles draw, and awaits the winner of Florian Graskamp (Eastern Kentucky) vs. Manuel Barroetavena (Chattanooga) in the round of 64. The No. 12 ranked player in the country at the start of the season, Rossi is the highest ranked singles player in this weekend's field. Not far behind Rossi in the rankings is Tennessee's Mikelis Libietis, the No. 15 ranked player in the country and No. 2 seed in this singles draw. Liebietis also opens his singles slate on Saturday in the Round of 64. Other ranked players in the singles draw include No. 26 Gonzales Austin (Vanderbilt), No. 45 Tom Jomby (Kentucky), No. 64 Panav Jha (Kentucky), No. 70 Sebastian Stiefelmeyer (Louisville), No. 82 David O'Leary (Memphis), No. 83 Isade Juneau (Indiana), No. 92 Ben Davis (Middle Tennessee), No. 106 Connor Glennon (Memphis) and No. 122 Albert Wagner (Louisville). All of those ranked players are seeded in the draw and will receive a first-round bye, meaning they will open their singles runs on Saturday, when there are two rounds of singles scheduled.

Five of Memphis' six singles entries are seeded in the singles draw and will not start singles play until Saturday morning. Cedric de Zutter will be the lone Tiger to play singles on Friday. He will face Dayton's Colin Bernier at approximately 6 p.m. in the Round of 128.

The Tigers' doubles team of Glennon and O'Hare are awaiting the winner of the Manuel Barroetavena/Jackson Tresnan (Chattanooga) vs. Florian Graskamp/Joao Maio (Eastern Kentucky) match at 10:30 a.m., Friday. Likewise, teammates David O'Leary and Joe Salisbury have also received a first round bye in doubles and await the winners of the match between Vanderbilt's team of Michael Retta and Krostofer Yee and Dayton's team of Devin Jones and Aidan Koross.

Teammates DeZutter and Johnny Grimal will begin play at 8:30 a.m., Friday, against the team of Dalton Albertin and Ray Leonard from Ball State.
