Men's Tennis Announces Spring Slate Filled With Ranked Foes

MEMPHIS - - The University of Memphis men's tennis team announced its spring schedule on Wednesday and the slate includes 13 teams that were ranked at the end of last season, including three teams ranked in the top 25 in the country.
The Tigers capped last season with the program's first-ever team appearance in the NCAA tournament and were ranked No. 35 in the country at the end of last season after going 19-6 during the spring dual season. The Tigers finished as the runners-up at the C-USA Championships, which will be hosted in Memphis this spring.
The men's squad will open the spring against three straight ranked opponents, hosting Michigan State (Jan. 18), who finished last season ranked No. 53, before traveling to Norman, Okla., to participate in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. In Norman, the Tigers will face host Oklahoma (Jan. 24), the No. 10 ranked team in the country last year, then will face either No. 24 Harvard or No. 29 Notre Dame in the second round on Jan. 25.
Memphis then returns home for a day with a pair of dual matches against Southern Illinois and Murray State on Feb. 8th, before venturing back out on the road for a pair of matches against SEC opponents Vanderbilt (No. 40, Feb. 15) and Ole Miss (No. 14, Feb. 26). Memphis returns home for just one match in the month of March, hosting Winthrop on Mar. 2nd, then embarks on a road swing that covers both coasts and Texas. Memphis will visit the Big Apple and play future BIG EAST opponent St. John's (No. 55) on Mar. 8th, then continues on to play at No. 70 Cornell, Mar. 10th. The Tigers return to the state for a one-match stop at No. 46 Middle Tennessee, Mar. 19th, then wing west to participate in the San Diego Tournament, Mar. 21-23rd.
Following the California trip, the Tigers will visit Texas, starting at No. 18 Baylor, the team that eliminated the Tigers from the NCAA tournament last season. The two will play a rematch in Waco on Mar. 28th, then Memphis will venture to Fort Worth to face TCU, Mar. 30th. The final two regular season road trips will send the Tigers to Virginia Commonwealth (No. 31), on Apr. 6th, then to another future BIG EAST foe, Louisville (No. 34), on Apr. 7th.
Memphis will then wrap up the home slate with two regular season match vs. No. 75, UAB, on Apr. 12th, and No. 52 South Alabama on Apr. 14th. Those two matches will prep the Tigers to host the Conference USA Championships, Apr. 18-21.
