Nov. 1, 2013
MEMPHIS - -
Senior men's tennis players David O'Hare and Joe Salisbury garnered their first career honors from the American Athletic Conference, Friday, sharing the league's Player of the Month award for October.
The duo is busy making school history this fall, as the No. 18 doubles team picked up two wins over top-10 ranked opponents, made the deepest run in the ITA All-American in school history, won the program's first ITA Regional championship, and qualified for the ITA Indoor Intercollegiate Championships. Competing first at the ITA All-American, the duo advanced to the quarterfinals, scoring a win over the nation's No. 6 pair to advance before losing to the eventual runners-up. The following weekend, O'Hare/Salisbury had a 5-0 performance to win the Ohio Valley Regional. The pair upended the nation's No. 1 duo from Tennessee in the semifinals to advance to the finals. With an 8-4 win in the final, the duo became one of 20 doubles teams in the nation to earn an invitation to the ITA Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, played at Flushing Meadows in November, and will be the first Tigers tandem in school history to qualify for the prestigious event. In singles play during October, O'Hare was 2-1, while Salisbury was 3-1 with a win over No. 47 Sebastian Stiefelmeyer of Louisville.
The tandem leaves next week for the ITA Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, held in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
