The University of Memphis men's tennis team announced the signing of Kai Lemke (Trebur, Germany/Immanuel-Kant) to a National Letter of Intent, Thursday. Lemke is the second signee from the early signing period for the Tigers.

Lemke has played in a handful of ITF Juniors events, most recently winning a singles and doubles title at the Head Cup powered by Steinfeger Immobilien in Bruchkobel, Germany in July. There, he upended the No. 15 seed in the singles draw in the finals, 6-1, 6-1. Lemke dropped only 16 games over six matches in his run at the Head Cup title run, upending three seeded players along the way despite being unseeded in the draw.

Sporting a German adult national ranking of 132, Lemke is the number 11 ranked German junior tennis player and led his team to the regionalliga.

"Kai is going to be an exciting player for Tiger tennis fans to watch," Head Coach Paul Goebel said. "He is a great competitor with a huge game. He was highly-recruited by top ACC and SEC programs, so we are excited to have someone of his caliber joining our program. Kai should make an immediate impact in our lineup and will be instrumental in keeping our team at the high level we are currently at."

The son of Juergen and Nicole Lamke, Kai was also recruited by Miami, North Carolina State, Mississippi State and Auburn.

He is the second of three signees for Memphis from the early signing period. He joins Great Britain's Andrew Watson (Reigate, Great Britain/The Ashcombe School).
