BELGAUM, India - - Former University of Memphis men's tennis player Amrit Narasimhan made it two in a row by teaming with Michael Shabaz to win the doubles event at the ITF India F17 event in Belgaum. The win is the second straight for the tandem and gives Narasimhan another professional doubles point.

En route the tournament title, the doubles team eliminated three of the top four seeds. They opened the tournament with a 5-7, 6-4, 10-2 win in the first round. They then downed the No. 4 seeded team, 5-7, 6-4, 10-6 in the quarterfinals. They had a little shorter match in the semifinal, downing the No. 2 seeded tandem, 6-3, 7-6 (4). The finals match was a nearly two-hour affair, but Narasimhan and Shabaz won, 7-6 (3), 7-5 to give each player their second professional doubles title on the ITF Pro Circuit.

The University of Memphis men's tennis team will kick off its spring dual season by hosting Michigan State as its first team dual meet, Jan. 18, at 6 p.m. at The Racquet Club of Memphis.
