1998-99: O'Connell again used the indoor season to prepare for decathlon competition during outdoor...He finished sixth in the pole vault at the C-USA Indoor Championships with a vault of 4.20 meters (13-9.25)...During the outdoor season, O'Connell was able to compete in the decathlon at two meets, winning the title at the ASU Track Classic with a school record of 6,999 points, breaking his own school record for the third time...Despite competing in the decathlon with an injury at the C-USA Outdoor meet, O'Connell finished in sixth place with 6,394 points.

Prep: O'Connell, a two-time state and regional decathlon champion, became the first Tennessee decathlete to break the 9,000 point barrier when he set the state high school record at 9,275 his senior year...He also placed fifth in the Dan O'Brien National Decathlon Championships...He lettered four years in track and three in football at Collierville...He holds school records in the javelin, 1500m, pole vault, discus, shot put, decathlon and 110 meter hurdles, plus a share of the 4x100m and 4x200 meter relay records.

Personal: Born June 4, 1977...Son of Timothy and Cassie O'Connell...Major is Management Information Systems (M.I.S.).
