2008 Outdoor: Major competed in seven meets including the NCAA Regionals while participating in the shot put, discus, and hammer throw during the 2008 outdoor season for the Tigers...At the Tigers first meet the Rhodes Open Meet, Major placed second in the shot put with a toss of 16.40m (53-09.75)...He also earned third place at the same meet in the hammer throw with a mark of 50.19m (164-08)...He set a personal best mark in the shot put at the Ole Miss May Invitational when he threw a 16.91m (55-05.75) earning him a sixth place finish...He also threw a personal best hammer throw placing fifth with a toss of 50.86m (166-10)...At the 2008 C-USA Outdoor Championships he finished in third place behind teammates Knut Syversen and Glen Edwards with a throw of 16.47m (54-00.50)...Major set a personal best discus mark with a toss of 53.92m (176-11) and a second place finish...Major qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regional...At the NCAA Mideast Regional in Fayetteville, Ark., he threw a 50.43m (165-05). Major earned the 2008 C-USA Newcomer of the Year.
2008 Indoor: Major competed in seven meets while participating in the shot put and indoor weight throw during the 2008 indoor season for the Tigers...He placed second in the shot put at the Arkansas State Invitational with a throw of 16.46m (54-00.00)...At the SEMO Invitational he threw a personal best shot put mark of 16.62m (54-06.50) with a fourth place finish...At the 2008 C-USA Indoor Championships, Major tied his personal best shot put throw and placed third behind teammates Greg Norrid and Glen Edwards...He also set a personal best weight throw mark at the C-USA Championships with a toss of 17.03m (55-10.50) which earned him an All-Conference sixth place finish.
Prior to Memphis: Competed in the throws at Red Lake ... Earned All-American honors in the shot put and discus in 2006 ... Was second in the nation in th discus in 2007 and third in the nation in shot put indoors in 2007.
PREP:Major's senior season he placed eighth in the shot put at the State Championships with a throw of 52 feet...He tossed the discus 172 feet 7 inches landing him a second place finish at the Illinois State Championships... He placed fourth in both shot put and discus with throws of 53'5" and 157'8" respectively...He qualified for State in shot put and discus his sophomore campaign...His freshman year he qualified for the Illinois State Championship in the shot put.
PERSONAL:Born on March 21, 1986 to Scott and Sandy Major ... Enjoys playing golf, slow pitch softball ... Is the youngest of seven children ... Majoring in criminal justice.
