Nemeth enters his junior year after record-breaking and extraordinary sophomore campaign...Nemeth won C-USA Individual Championships in the 3000m Steeplechase, Outdoor 5000m run and Indoor 3000m run...He set new school records in the 5000m run and 3000m Steeplechase...He became the first Memphis athlete to win an event a Penn Relays since 1973...Nemeth qualified for NCAA Regionals in two events...Advanced to NCAA Championships and placed 12th in the 3000m Steeplechase...He was named C-USA Athlete of the Week...Nemeth will be the Tigers top distance runner and possibly the top distance runner in C-USA and among the top distance runners in the NCAA.

2003: (CROSS COUNTRY)-Battled post-sinus surgery problems that hampered his breathing while running...Ran a 26:34.00 at the Iona Meet of Champions...Finished 31st at the C-USA Cross Country Championships with an 8K time of 26:24.50.

2003: Nemeth competed in the European Cup and placed fifth in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 8:55.00...Won the Hungarian National Championship in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 8:58.00...Competed in the European Under-23 Championships running a 9:04.00 in the 3000m Steeplechase...INDOOR TRACK-Stunned the field at the Arkansas Tyson Invitational by winning the 3000m run with a time of 8:21.95 in his first race as a Memphis Tiger...Set a new school record in the 5000m run with a time of 14:52.78 at C-USA Indoor Championships placing second in the race...Won the 3000m at the C-USA Indoor Championships with a time of 8:29.27...Personal best times of 14:52.78 (5000m) and 8:21.95 (3000m)...OUTDOOR TRACK-Won the Mile run at the Big Cat Classic with a time of 4:13.16...Set a school record and earned a NCAA Regional Qualifying mark at the Sea Ray Relays in the 3000m Steeplechase running an 8:50.92...Broke his own school record at the Penn Relays with a time of 8:49.92 in the 3000m Steeplechase winning the race while becoming the first Memphis athlete to win an event at Penn Relays since 1973...Was named C-USA Athlete of the Week (4/27)...Broke his own record for a second time in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 8:37.53 at the Stanford Cardinal Invitational...Won the 5000m run at C-USA Outdoor Championships and earned an NCAA Regional Qualifying time of 14:39.00...Won the 3000m Steeplechase C-USA Outdoor Championship with a time of 9:12.30...Placed third in the 3000m Steeplechase at the NCAA Mid-Eastern Regional with a time of 8:4.27 on route to advancing to the NCAA Championships...Placed 12th at the NCAA Championships in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 8:47.54...Along with teammate Gaute Myklebust was the first Memphis male athlete to compete in the NCAA Championships...Personal best times of 3:54.39 (mile run), 8:37.53 (3000m Steeplechase) and 14:39.00 (5000m ).

2001-02 (Northern Iowa): OUTDOOR-Competed at Northern Iowa University...Won the Missouri Valley Conference 3000m Steeplechase Championship in 2002 setting a record that still stands with a time of 9:01.89...Personal best times of 8:13.70 (3000m), 3:46.00 (1500m) and 4:11.00 (mile run).

2000-01 (Northern Iowa): CROSS COUNTRY- Champion at the Drake Open, the Iowa State Open and the Missouri Valley Conference Championships... Three-time MVC Athlete of the Week...MVC Scholar Athlete... Personal best times of 24:35.00 (8K) and 31:37.00 (10K)...INDOOR- Finished seventh in the mile run at the MVC Championship with a time of 4:14.80...OUTDOOR-Won the 3000m steeplechase at the Jim Duncan Invitational, finishing with the fourth fastest time in school history (9:00.82)...Finished third in the 1500m at the MVC Championship with a time of 3:54.25.

PREP: Attended Magyarorszag Prepatroy School...Twice competed at the European Championships, finishing 21st and 51st...Finished 38th at the World Junior Championships...Won the World Gymnaside race and placed sixth at the European Youth Olympic Days.

PERSONAL: Full name is Mate Nemeth...Born in Szekszard, Hungary on February 9, 1981...Son of Gyula Nemeth and Zsuzsa Laszlo...Father is a track coach, mother is a teacher...Major is Geography ...Chose Memphis because many Hungarian friends were enrolling...Plans to continue running and maybe coach after graduation...Enjoys playing guitar and playing chess.
