@MemTigersTF_XC Men Place Second at Illini Classic

CHAMPAIGN, Illi- The University of Memphis men’s track and field team began the 2014 indoor season, on Saturday, at the Illini Classic. At the team scored meet, the Memphis men (102.50 points) placed second overall. Host school No. 12 Illinois (227.50) placed first, with Eastern Illinois (71 points) taking third.
Memphis throwers shined scoring 25 points in the shot put and 13 points in the weight throw. In the shot put, freshman Luke Vaughn placed first for 10 points at 16.52m (54’2.5”). Yannik Schaly added eight with his second place finish of 16.46m (54’). Matt Sipe (15.06m, 49’5”) scored four in a fifth place finish, while Tom Willcox (14.25m, 46’9”) tacked on three placing sixth.
Willcox added six more points in the weight throw, placing fourth at 16.46m (54’). Will Hubber followed with five points taking fifth place at 16.26m (53’4.25”). Sipe tallied two points taking eighth at 14.61m (47’11.25”)
Brandon Williams scored three points with an eighth place finish of 51.08 in the 400m. Freshman Aaron Persinger tallied four points in the 60m hurdles. Persinger recorded a time of 8.46 for a fifth place finish.
In the 600m, Memphis notched a total of nine points with LaForrest Church scoring six in a second place finish of 1:19.89 and LaQuintin Garner scoring one with an eighth place finish of 1:21.83. Church, Garner, Alex Klatt and Chris Walker added five more points in the 4 x 400m relay taking fifth in a time of 3:24.43
In the 800m, Godfrey Fayne, Keanan Joyner and Klatt combined for 10 points. Fayne added six finishing seventh at 1:57.68, Joyner followed with three placing ninth at 1:59.41 and Klatt notched one taking 11th at 2:00.48. Senior James Maglasang picked up two points in the 3,000m finishing seventh in a time of 8:39.02.
The Tigers recorded 14.50 points in the high jump. Georgio Lynwood scored eight placing second at a height of 2.08m (6’9.75”), Marc Klaschka scored 4.50 points with a fifth place finish of 1.88m (6’2”) and Turre Hollo scored two taking eighth at a height of 1.83m (6’0”).
Jaleen White added a combined 12 points in the long jump and triple jump. White scored four in the long jump placing fifth at 6.43m (21’1.25”) and eight in the triple jump placing third at 13.75m (45’1.5”). Austin Crenshaw placed fourth in the pole vault taking on five points at a height of 5.05m (16’6.75”).
