Forde Takes 60m Hurdles Title at Samford

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-Memphis track and field squads clawed through the Samford Multi and Invitational, on Saturday, at the Birmingham Crossplex. With preparations for the Conference USA Indoor Championships in mind, the Tigers notched new program records and personal bests.
Kala Funderburk took first and set a new program-record in the 400m with at time of 54.17. Funderburk surpassed here own school-record set in 2012 of 55.02. Teammate Keyona Neal finished third with a new personal-best crossing the line at 55.96. In the men's 400m, Brandon Williams placed 15th in a time of 49.69.
Maya Williamson broke her own school-record and took first place in the women's 800m with a time of 2:10.53. Williamson bested her previous program-record of 2:11.31 set earlier this season. Fellow runners Nandia Taylor (2:13.92), Monica Mason (2:14.24) and Jenny Johnston (2:14.80) finished in order sixth, seventh and eighth. On the men's side of the 800m, Godfrey Fayne took 12th with a time of 1:54.44.
Pulling double-duty, Neal, Mason, Funderburk and Williamson took first-place and once again broke their own program-record in the women' 4 x 400m relay with a time of 3:42.10. The group surpassed the record they set one week ago at the Meyo Invitational of 3:42.69. In the men's 4 x 400m relay, the team of Williams, Ojike Maat, Luis Hanssler and Fayne placed 10th with a time of 3:21.46.
Tyrell Forde placed first with a new personal-best of 8.12 in the men's 60m hurdles invitational. Tuure Hollo (8.57) and Luis Hanssler (8.58) took seventh and eighth respectively in the men's 60m hurdles. For the women, Xenia Rahn (8.82) and Quaniqua Jones (8.85) placed sixth and seventh.
James Maglasang (8:32.42) and Daniel Kuhman (8:35.91) finished sixth and 12th respectively in the men's 3000m. Meagan Nichols placed 31st for the women at a time of 11:00.11. In the 5000m, Alsiha Fitch (18:31.60) took 11th for the women, with Stephen Tankersley (15:48.65) taking 16th for the men.
Moving to field events, the Tigers recorded a combined three top-10 finishes in the men's and women's high jump. For the women, Laura Toldy and Kirsten Berding both cleared 1.67m (5'5.75") with Toldy tying for fourth and Berding placing sixth. For the men, Georgio Lynwood took third clearing a height of 2.03m (6'8").
In the pole vault, Clara Amat Fernandez and Sabrina Hochreuther each cleared 3.80m (12'5.5") for the women, with Amat Fernandez placing second and Hochreuther tying for fourth. On the men's side, Austin Crenshaw cleared 4.75m (15'7") tying for seventh.
Sydney Wright was the highest finishing Tiger in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.27m (17'3.5") landing the sophomore at 19th overall. Jaleen White picked up a top-10 finish for the men with a jump of 6.93m (22'9") tying for tenth.
In triple jump, Manuel Ziegler took second for the men landing at 15.49m (50'10"). Wright took 19th for the women at a distance of 10.99m (36'0.75").
Yannik Schaly took sixth for the men in the shot put with a throw of 17.34m (56'10.75"), as fellow throwers Andrew Miller (16.04m, 52'7.50") and Matt Sipe (15.57m, 51'1") took 13th and 14th. For the women, Allison Hotz set a new personal-best with a second place throw of 14.85m (48'8.75"), as Vivian Brandhoff (14.16m, 46'5.5") and Britta Jaarats (13.93m, 45'8.5") finished third and sixth.
