FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Memphis men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up day one of the Tyson Invitational. In the highly competitive meet, the Tigers received quality performances on the first day of competition.

Amaechi Oselukwue was involved in the hurdles action as he competed in the 60-meter hurdles, knocking down a time of 8.27. In the men's 60-meter dash Frashod Barlow crossed the line in 6.93.

Memphis had three marks in the men's shot put as Glen Edwards led the way with a mark of 16.85 meters (55-03.50) placing sixth. Knut Syversen had a throw of 15.37 meters (50-05.25) and Seth Major finished with a mark of 14.91 meters (48-11.00).

Tina Sherratt was stellar in the mile run, as she completed the event in a time of 4:59.98, placing tenth. The time is a personal best of the season for Sherratt and it is just three seconds shy of her school record.

In the 400-meters, Jessica Wright ran a personal best time of 57.67. Teammate LaShundra Kershaw competed in the 60-meter dash, crossing the line in a time of 7.67.

Susan King was the only U of M female thrower to compete in the weight throw, as she placed eighth with a mark of 17.45 meters (57-03.00) fouling all but her first two throws.

Competition at the Tyson Invitational will start up again tomorrow at approximately 10 a.m. CT. Memphis will be competing in the women's high jump, women's shot put, men's triple jump, men's weight throw and men's 800-meter run.
