LAFAYETTE, La.- University of Memphis track and field squads returned to action at the Louisiana Classics hosted by UL-Lafayette. The meet was the Tigers first of the outdoor track and field season.

Memphis picked up a pair of first place finishes in the 400m hurdles. Maya Williamson took first for the women with a time of 1:00.84. On the men's side Brandon Williams placed first crossing the line at 54.23. In the men's 110m hurdles, Tyrell Forde notched a top-five finish placing fifth in a time of 14.95.

In the women's 400m dash, Kala Funderburk took first in a time of 55.40, with Keyona Neal placing fourth at 56.14. For the men, Manuel Ziegler (50.62), Tim Jones (53.22) and Tuure Hollo (55.02) finished 18th, 25th and 29th respectively.

Funderburk (24.53), Neal (24.97) and DaQuanya Byrd-West (25.34) finished third, fifth and sixth in the women's 200m dash. On the men's side, Williams tied for 25th with a personal-record of 23.61.

The Memphis women picked four top-10 finishes in the 800m. Louisa Lingley took third in a time of 2:16.81 with Laura Toldy (2:16.89), Taylor Kriha (2:17.04) and Monica Mason (2:19.01) placing fourth, fifth and eighth respectively. In the men's 800m, Justin Pinkston placed seventh in a time of 1:59.23 with Luis Hanssler (2:00.41) and Jeremy Rice (2:06.01) finishing 11th and 20th.

Nandia Taylor (4:40.13) and Jennifer Johnston (4:44.83) took second and third in the women's 1500m run. On the men's side, Godfrey Fayne (4:08.00), Julien Wolf (4:12.28) and Keanan Joyner (4:21.07) placed eighth, 12th and 18th respectively.

In the men's 5000m run the Tigers took four top-10 finishes. Dan Kuhman took first in a time of 15:02.76 with fellow runner James Maglasang taking second with a time of 15:20.26. Teammates Austin Carter (15:37.90) and Stephen Tankersley (16:58.39) took third and tenth with new personal bests.

Fayne, Pinkston, Rice and Joyner took seventh in the men's 4 x 400m relay in a time of 3:26.40. On the women's side Johnston, Lingley, Taylor and Kriha took fifth crossing the line at 4:00.39.

In the men's high jump, Georgio Lynwood took second with leap of 2.00m (6' 6.75"). Kirsten Berding placed third in the women's high jump at a height of 1.70m (5' 7")

Four Tigers placed in the top-10 in the women's pole vault. Carolina Carmichael took first clearing the bar at 3.75m (12'3.5") with teammate Sabrina Hochreuther taking second at the same height. Fellow pole vaulters Janelle Mason (3.45m, 11'3.75") and Miranda Strafuss (3.30m, 10'10") placed seventh and 10th.

Byrd-West took tenth in the women's long jump with a mark of 4.97m (16'3.75"). In the women's triple jump, Sydney Wright took sixth with a leap of 10.83m (35'6.5").

In throwing events, Vivian Brandhoff took first in the women's shot put with a throw of 14.07m (46'2"). Fellow throwers Allison Hotz (12.70m, 41'8") and Britta Jaarats (12.58m, 41'3.25") took sixth and seventh. In the men's shot put, Tom Willcox (14.94m, 49'.25") and Matt Sipe (14.00m, 45'11.25") placed fourth and eighth respectively.

The Tigers picked up a combined five top-10 finishes in the men's and women's discus. For the women, Anna-Maria Bischof took third landing at 43.27m (141'11"), with Brandhoff taking seventh at 40.63m (133'4"). On the men's side, Yannik Schaly (43.83m, 143'9"), Willcox (43.70m, 143'4") and Andrew Miller (42.93m, 140'10") placed eighth, ninth and 10th.

In the women's hammer throw, Jaarats took fourth for the women with a toss of 49.32m (161'10"). Sipe took sixth for the men at 44.95m (147'6").

Memphis took two top-10 spots in the men's javelin. Kyle Bynum placed third at 64.17m (210'6") with Thomas Poole taking sixth with a throw of 59.40m (194'10").
