American Outdoor Championship Day 1 Results

TAMPA, Fla.-Univeristy of Memphis track and field squads began competition at the inaugural American Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship, on Friday. After a delayed start due to inclement weather, the Tigers battled less than favorable conditions on day one.

After five events of the men’s decathlon, Luis Hanssler (3,984 points) sits in first place. Hanssler took first in the 100m (10.81), first in the long jump (7.24m, 23’9”), second in the shot put (12.96m, 42’6.25”), tied for first in the high jump (1.89m, 6’2.25”) and first in the 400m (49.45).

Teammate Tuure Hollo (3,435 points) sits in third place in the decathlon. Hollo took sixth in the 100m (11.60), seventh in the long jump (6.44m, 21’1.5”), fourth in the shot put (12.61m, 41’4.5”), tied for first in the high jump (1.89m, 6’2.25”), and seventh in the 400m (53.24). The final five events of the decathlon will take place on Saturday.

In the hammer throw, the men scored three overall team points with a seventh place finish for two points by Matt Sipe (53.08m, 174’2”) and an eight place finish for one point by Tom Willcox (52.81m, 173’3”). On the women’s side, Britta Jaarats placed 12th with a mark of 45.63m (149’8”).

Dan Kuhman and Aidan Galasso each scored points for the men in the 10,000m. Kuhman took fourth for five points in a time of 31:28.93, with Galasso taking eighth for one point at 32:14.41.

In the 3,000m steeplechase, Erica Owen placed ninth for the women with a time of 11:55.09. On the men’s side, Brandon Keys placed 11th in a time of 10:19.26.
