Memphis Opens Competition at the C-USA Outdoor Championship

HOUSTON, Texas- Memphis track and field squads opened day one of the 2013 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship, on Thursday, competing in the decathlon and heptathlon.
Through four events of the women's heptathlon, Xenia Rahn sits in second place with 3,240 points. Rahn took first in the shot put (12.42m, 40'9"), tied for second in the high jump (1.72m, 5-7.75"), and placed 10th in the 200m (26.78). Rahn set a new personal-best in the 100m hurdles taking second with a time of 14.26.
Teammates Quaniqua Jones (2,959 points) and Laura Toldy (2,775) sit in seventh and 10th respectively. Jones took fourth in the 100m hurdles (14.42), 11th in the high jump (1.54m, 5-.5"), seventh in the shot put (10.67m, 35'.25") and sixth in the 200m (25.97). Toldy took 14th in the 100m hurdles (16.21), tied for second in the high jump (1.72m, 5-7.75"), placing 12th in the shot put (9.19m, 30'2") and 11th in the 200m (26.78).
Through five events of the men's decathlon, Luis Hanssler sits in second place with 3,855 points. Hanssler took second in the 100m (11.11), first in the long jump (7.48m, 24'6.5"), sixth in the shot put (11.24m, 36'10.5"), tied for fifth in the high jump (1.87m, 6'1.5") and and took first in the 400m (49.40).
Teammates Turre Hollo (3,606 points) and Tim Jones (3,169 points) sit in fifth and ninth place respectively. Hollo took seventh in the 100m (11.69), fourth in the long jump (6.89m, 22'7.25"), third in the shot put (12.78m, 41'11.25"), set a new personal-best in the high jump taking third (1.96m, 6'5") and placed eighth (53.01). Jones took eighth in the 100m (11.76), 10th in the long jump (6.17m, 20'3"), set a new personal-best taking eighth in the shot put (10.62m, 34'10.25"), placed eighth in the high jump (1.78m, 5'10") and seventh in the 400m (52.26).
Due to the chance of inclement weather, day two of the 2013 C-USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship has been moved up to 10:30 a.m. (CT) with the men's hammer throw, followed by the finals of the decathlon and heptathlon at 11 a.m. (CT) and 12 p.m. (CT), respectively. The women's hammer is set for 1 p.m. (CT), while the 10,000 meter races remain at 8 p.m. (CT) at Holloway Field/Ley Track.
