Lynwood Strikes Gold on Day Three of the C-USA Outdoor Championship

HOUSTON, Texas- Memphis got back to work on day three of the Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship, on Saturday, winning gold and racking-up overall team points. At the close of the third day of competition, the men sat in second place overall with 48 points, with the women's team in fourth place tallying 23.5 points.
In field event finals, Georgio Lynwood took gold in the men's high jump leaping 2.12m (6'11.5") for the win. Lynwood's title scored 10 overall team points for the men. Fellow jumpers Manuel Ziegler and Luis Hanssler tacked on four more points in the long jump. Zeigler (7.38m, 24'2.5") took sixth scoring three points with Hanssler (7.26m, 23'10") placing eighth scoring one point.
The men's squad got another big boost in the discus scoring a combined eight points. Andrew Miller (48.12m, 157'10", four points), Tom Willcox (46.64m, 153', three points) and Yannik Schaly (45.18m, 148'3", one point) finished fifth, sixth and eighth respectively to push the Tigers up the overall leader board. Memphis women notched two points in the discus as Vivian Brandhoff finished seventh with a mark of 47.54m (156').
The women's squad picked-up 11.5 team points in the pole vault. Sabrina Hochreuther scored five points taking fourth place clearing 3.92m (12'10.25") while Clara Amat Fernandez took fifth scoring four points at a height of 3.82m (12'6.25"). Carolina Carmichael tied for sixth at 3.72m (12'2.5") to score 2.5 points.
Running in preliminary track events, several Memphis athletes punched their ticket for final round action on Sunday. Aarron Willett qualified for the men's 110m hurdle final placing seventh in with a time of 15.12.
In the women's 400m preliminary Kala Funderburk and Keyona Neal qualified for the finals. Funderburk placed second in a time of 53.63 with Neal following in fourth at 54.11. Funderburk (23.94) also placed sixth in the 200m preliminary, qualifying her for the finals.
Louisa Lingley (2:11.11) and Nandia Taylor (2:11.57) placed fourth and seventh respectively in the women's 800m preliminary to qualify for the finals. On the men's side, Godfrey Fayne (1:52.40) and Austin Carter (1:53.42) qualified for Sunday's finals placing sixth and eighth respectively in the preliminary.
Two Tigers qualified for the men's 400m hurdle finals with Brandon Williams (51.99) and Ojike Maat (54.74) finishing second and sixth respectively in the preliminary. For the women, Maya Williams is moving on to the 400m hurdle finals with her third place finish of 59.78 in the preliminary.
The final day of the C-USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship begins on Sunday at 5 p.m. (CT) with remaining field events followed by track event finals at 6 p.m. (CT). Complete results from the meet will be posted of GoTigersGo.com as they are made available.
