Nerdal Claims Eighth Individual Crown As Tigers Wrap-Up Day Two of C-USA Championships

ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Memphis track and field squad wrapped up competition at day two of the Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday with senior thrower Steffen Nerdal claiming his third hammer throw title and his C-USA individual crown. Nerdal who had been sick for nearly a week claimed his eighth championship crown with a C-USA Outdoor Championship record throw of 68.86m (225-01). The Norwegian adds to his plethora of awards with today's showing at his final C-USA Championship event. Junior thrower Knut Syversen joined Nerdal as an All-C-USA honoree with a throw of 55.94m (183-06) for fifth place. Syversen earns his eighth All-C-USA honor and will look to add two more in the shot put competition on Saturday and the discus throw on Sunday. Junior multi-event athlete Desiree' Blow completed the heptathlon with 4,413 points to finish 10th. Distance specialist Jacob Chapman competed under the lights at the UCF Track Complex on Friday night and clocked a season-best time of 32:39.98 to finish 11th in the 10,000m run. Senior's Karmyn Clark and Angela Wigley competed in the hammer throw for the last time in their U of M careers. Clark finished 14th with a season-best throw of 49.93m while Wigley finished 21st with a throw of 48.21m. After day two of the 2010 C-USA Championships, Rice leads the men's team standing with 30 points while Memphis is in fourth with 14 points. The Lady Tigers have not registered a point yet and stand in 10th place entering day three of competition. UTEP and UAB are tied for the lead in the women's standings with 22 points each. A full slate of track and field events will be on the docket for both Saturday and Sunday. Field events will begin each day at 1 p.m., while track events commence at 6 p.m.
