HOUSTON, Texas - The University of Memphis men and women's track and field squads wrapped up their respective team seasons at the 2011 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Sunday. The men's team scored 96 team points, for a fifth-place finish, while the women's squad finished 11th with 29 points.

UCF was victorious in the women's event, scoring 157 points, while Houston won its third consecutive men's outdoor championship, scoring 175 points.

Senior hurdler Richard Lowe had the strongest day for the Tigers, lowering his own school record in the 400m hurdles to 50.37 to vault to fourth in the East Region and ninth in the nation.

Freshman Brandon Williams joined him on the podium, earning his first medal with a third-place, 52.40 run. Senior Nick Harold also earned points for the Tigers, finishing fifth with a 53.51 mark.

Junior Robert Jackson was a big winner again, earning his second consecutive 110m hurdles title with a personal-best 13.98 run. Jackson's run all but guarantees him a shot at the NCAA East Regional in two weeks.

Jackson's running mate, senior Darius Anderson, also secured points with a fifth-place, 14.75 run.

Senior Tayanna Simpson continued her superb hurdles season, scoring in both the 100m (13.90, sixth) and 400m (1:00.02, fourth) events. The 400m hurdle mark lowered her school record by better than half a second.

Both men's relay teams had big performances, with the 4x400 team of Lowe, Williams, Harold and Guy Hudson medaling, earning third with a season-best 3:09.83 mark. The 4x100 team of Jackson, freshman Jaz Davis, senior Frashod Barlow and junior Cam Baker (who also scored in the 100m dash) was fourth with a 41.68 run.

In the field, freshman Darius Lynwood set a personal- and Memphis season-best in earning a silver medal in the high jump, leaping 2.08m (6' 9.75").

Senior Jerome Leslie was fifth in the triple jump, just missing equaling his career-best 51 foot leap; he finished at 15.51m (50' 10.75").

Two Tigers scored in the shot put, beginning with freshman Tom Willcox's fourth-place, 17.12m (56' 2") toss, a personal and Memphis-season best in the shot. Sophomore Andrew Miller was eighth with a 15.61m (51' 2.75") throw.

In women's discus, freshman Anna Bischof finished fourth, with her 45.24m (148' 5") throw just five inches shy of her personal-best.

In the final field event of the weekend, sophomore Casey Carl finished fourth in the javelin, tossing a 61.67m (202' 4") mark.

Though the team season has wound down, several Tigers will continue into the summer with competition, beginning at next weekend's Elite Throws Meet in Tucson, Arizona.
