GREENSBORO, N.C.- University of Memphis track and field athletes got to work on day one of the NCAA East Preliminary. Four Tigers advanced to the next round of competition including one that secured a spot at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Eugene, Ore.

In the men's long jump, Luis Hanssler punched his ticket to Eugene finishing in the top-12 of the NCAA East Preliminary. Hanssler locked up a spot in the national finals by placing 11th with a leap of 7.36m (24'1.75").

In the men's pole vault, Pauls Pujats, Austin Crenshaw and Nate Arnold were unable to advance despite a valiant effort. Needing to finish in the top-12 to move on to the NCAA Outdoor Championship final, Pujats (5.05m, 16'6.75") placed 20th, Crenshaw (5.05m, 16'6.75") took 28th and Arnold (4.90m, 16'.75") finished 30th.

In track events, Maya Williamson and Brandon Williams advanced to the quarterfinal rounds of the 400m hurdles. Williamson advanced in the women's 400m hurdles finishing fourth at 58.96 in her heat. Williams advanced in the men's 400m hurdles clocking a time of 52.13 to take fourth in his heat. The women's 400m hurdles quarterfinal is set for 5:30 p.m. (CT) with the men's 400m hurdles quarterfinal set to follow at 5:45 p.m. (CT) on Friday.

Kala Funderburk advanced to the women's 400m quarterfinals also set for Friday. Funderburk crossed the line at 53.28 to take second in her heat. The women's 400m quarterfinal is set for 5 p.m. (CT) on Friday. Teammate Keyona Neal missed moving on in the 400m finishing sixth in her heat at 54.15.

Joining Williamson, Funderburk and Williams in action on Friday will be Kyle Bynum, Yannik Schaly, Sabrina Hochreuther and Clara Amat Fernandez. Bynum will go to work in the men's javelin at 11 a.m. (CT). Schaly begins competition in the men's shot put at 4 p.m. (CT), with Hochreuther and Amat Fernandez set to start the women's pole vault at the same time.
