Two Tigers Advance at NCAA East Preliminary

JACKSONVILLE, FLA.-Memphis track and field athletes opened day one of the NCAA East Preliminary at the University of North Florida, on Thursday, competing in five events. At the end of the day two Tigers punched their tickets to the quarterfinal round.
Brandon Williamsadvanced through the first round of the men's 400m hurdles finishing fourth in his heat with a time of 51.81. Williams will take part in the 400m hurdles quarterfinals set for Friday at 6:30 p.m. (CT).
Running in the men's 800m, Fabian Fiegeadvanced through the first round crossing the line at 1:50.58 to take fifth in his heat. The freshman will run in the 800m quarterfinals set for Friday at 6 p.m. (CT).
For the women, Maya Williamson and Kala Funderburk fell short in their bids for the quarterfinals Williamson took fifth in her 400m hurdles heat with a time of 1:00.22, while Funderburk finished seventh in her 400m dash heat at 55.53. Williamson and Funderburk will join teammates Keyona Neal and Monica Masonin the women's 4 x400m quarterfinals set for Saturday at 8:45 p.m. (CT).
In the men's javelin, freshman Kyle Bynumdid not advance through the semifinal round. Bynum finished 40th with a throw of 56.67m (185'11").
Memphis resumes action at the NCAA East Preliminary tomorrow at 9 a.m. (CT) with sophomore Will Hubber competing in the men's hammer throw, and senior Robert Jackson along with freshman Tyrell Forde set to run in the 110m hurdles first round later in the day at 4 p.m. (CT). Results from the NCAA East Preliminary will be posted on GoTigersGo.com as they are made available.
