@MemTigersTF_XC Athletes Open Competition at the NCAA East Preliminary

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-University of Memphis track and field athletes opened competition at the NCAA East Preliminary, on Thursday.

Junior Maya Williamson took to the track in the women's 400m hurdles preliminary round. Williamson was able to advance semifinal round placing third in her heat in a time of 58.41.

On the men's side, Yannik Schaly and Luke Vaughn looked to secure a top-12 finish to advance to the finals in Eugene, Ore. Schaly placed 19th overall with a throw of 18.16m (59'7").

Vaughn was also unable to advance fouling in all three of his attempts. Vaughn will have one more chance to advance to the national finals in the discus set for Saturday.

Thomas Poole placed 45th in the javelin with a throw of 55.75m (182'11") on his first attempt. Poole fouled on his second attempt, and recorded a mark of 55.03m (180'6") on his third.

The Tigers resume action at the NCAA East Preliminary on Friday. Carolina Carmichael and Sabrina Hochreuther will compete in the women's pole vault at 11:00 a.m. (CT). Willimason will continue her run in the 400m hurdles with the semifinals set for 6:45 p.m. (CT).
