EUGENE, Ore. – Under a light rain surrounded by 9,000 plus in attendance at Hayward Field on Wednesday night, junior hurdler Richard Lowe represented the University of Memphis track and field program as its first 400m hurdler to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Running in lane one of heat number two, Lowe crossed the finish line with a time of 52.58 seconds. The Kansas City, Mo., native ends his junior season having broken the school-record twice during the outdoor season and claiming the silver medal at the Conference USA Outdoor Championships.
Sophomore hurdler Robert Jackson will toe the blocks on Thursday night at 5:35 p.m. (PT) for the preliminary round of the 110m hurdles. The top-two finishers in each heat followed by the next two top times advance to the final round of the 110m hurdles on Saturday at 11:15 a.m. (PT). If Jackson advances to the final, he will join former Tiger Terron Wright as Memphis’ only All-American hurdlers.
Senior thrower Steffen Nerdal will end his prolific U of M career when he steps into the throwing circle for the hammer throw competition at approximately 4:00 p.m. (PT). Nerdal, ranked in the top-five throughout the season, is throwing for his fourth All-American performance and his second All-American hammer throw honor.
