DES MOINES, Iowa - Steffen Nerdal competed in the preliminary round of the hammer throw at the 2008 NCAA Track and Field Championships this afternoon, advancing to the finals.

Nerdal's first throw of 66.07 meters (216-09) was good enough to advance him to Friday's finals. He fouled his last two throws. Nerdal will enter Friday's finals with the sixth best throw out of the remaining 12 competitors.

The finals of the hammer are set for 5:30 p.m. on Friday, June 13.

Teammates Sivan Aballi and Susan King will compete in the women's shot put tomorrow at 7:15 p.m.
