Nerdal Earns Fourth All-American Honor

EUGENE, Ore. - Senior thrower Steffen Nerdal threw for history on Friday night at Hayward Field as he became the University of Memphis track and field program’s first four-time All-American. The Bergen, Norway, native launched his first throw of the afternoon at 68.00m (223-01). With his second throw, Nerdal uncorked a throw of 69.86m (229-02) to enter the final three attempts in fourth place among nine finalists. Nerdal fouled on his first throw in the finals before throwing 68.68m (225-04) on his second attempt in the finals. With a foul on his third attempt in the finals, Nerdal’s career at the U of M comes to a close. As one of Memphis’ most decorated throwers, Nerdal has eight C-USA individual championships and four All-American performances. With a fourth-place finish in today’s NCAA Championships, Nerdal improves his best finish in the hammer throw at the NCAA’s. Nerdal finished sixth in the 2007 NCAA Championships in Sacramento, Calif., and at the 2008 NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
