EUGENE, Ore.-Three University of Memphis track and field athletes were in action on day one of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, on Wednesday.

Pauls Pujats earned All-America second team honors tying for tenth in the men’s pole vault clearing 5.40m (17’8.5”). This is Pujats’ second All-America citation as a Tiger.

Pujats passed on the opening height of 5.10m (16’8.75”) and then cleared the next two progressions of 5.25m (17’2.75”) and 5.40m (17’8.5”) in one attempt each. The junior then passed on the next progression of 5.50m (18’.5”) but was unable to clear the next height of 5.55m (18’2.5”) missing on three attempts.

Fellow vaulter Austin Crenshaw placed 18th in finals clearing 5.25m (17’2.75”). Crenshaw cleared the opening height of 5.10m (16’8.75”) on his second attempt at the height. Following suit on the next progression of 5.25m (17’2.75”), Crenshaw cleared the height on his second attempt. On the next height of 5.40m (17’8.5”), the senior missed on all three of his attempts.

Through the first five events of the decathlon, Luis Hanssler sits in 16th place with a score of 3, 837 points. Hanssler placed ninth in the 100m (10.94, 874 points), 11th in the long jump (7.23m, 23’8.75”, 869 points), 17th in the shot put (12.09m, 39’8”, 612 points), 19th in the high jump (1.84m, 6’.5”, 661points) and 10th in the 400m (50.05, 812 points).

Hanssler will complete the five remaining events (100m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500m) on Thursday. Final results from day two will be posted on GoTigersGo.com as they are made available.
