BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- University of Memphis track and field squads kicked off the 2012-2013 indoor track and field season, on Friday, at the BSC Ice Breaker. Day one saw the throwers take center stage, with the Memphis men and women combining for six top-10 finishes in the weight throw.

For the women, defending Conference USA women's weight throw champion, Cyarra Wells, placed second in the first meet of the season. Britta Jaarats placed fourth with a new personal-best with Allison Hotz and Vivian Brandhoff taking eighth and ninth place respectively. On the men's side, senior Andrew Miller took second overall, with teammate and 2012 C-USA weight throw bronze medalist Will Hubber placing eighth.

Action resumes in Birmingham, Ala. on Saturday at 9 a.m. (CT) with a full slate of track and field events on tap starting with the 60m preliminaries. Complete results from today's weight throw competition and all of day two's events will be posted on GoTigersGo.com as they are made available.
