Memphis, Tenn.- University of Memphis senior thrower Steffen Nerdal was named Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday.

Nerdal threw a personal-best and school record weight throw toss of 22.81m (74-10.00) at the Arkansas State University Invitational last weekend. The Bergen, Norway native broke his personal and school record of 22.54m (73-11.50) which he threw at the NCAA Indoor Championships last season.

The two-time All-American currently leads all NCAA weight throwers by 1.05m (3-05.25). Nerdal has been honored as C-USA Athlete of the Week four times with today’s recognition.

Nerdal will return to competition this weekend at the Rod McCravy Memorial in Lexington, Ky. Competition in the men’s weight throw will begin at 6 p.m. with other events for the Tigers scheduled Friday and Saturday.
