Memphis, Tenn. - For the second-straight week, University of Memphis senior thrower Steffen Nerdal has been named Conference USA Male Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday.

The Bergen, Norway, native picks up his fifth athlete of the week award and is the first Tiger track and field athlete to win the award in back-to-back meets.

Nerdal threw his third-straight NCAA qualifying mark of the indoor season as he finished second in the weight throw competition with a toss of 22.34m (73-03.50), first among collegiate competition, at the Rod McCravy Memorial meet on the campus of the University of Kentucky last weekend.

The two-time All-American currently ranks second among NCAA weight throwers with his school record and personal-best toss of 22.81m (74-10.00) earlier this season.

Nerdal and the Tigers return to competition at the McDonald’s Invitational in Carbondale, Ill., hosted by Southern Illinois University this weekend.
