Men's Track Gets Another Shot Against Stiff Competition

Memphis, Tenn.- - The University of Memphis men's track and field team will get a second look at some stiff competition at the Iowa State Classic this weekend.
The meet begins Friday. The only Memphis competitors in action Friday will compete in the long jump and the 200. Junior Delvit Rogers (Memphis, Tenn./Raleigh Egypt) will look to push his long jump mark up against 63 other competitors from track programs such as Indiana State, Drake, Illinois, Georgia, Missouri, Oregon, Tulsa, Kansas State and Texas A&M.
In the 200-meter dash, the Tigers will be represented by senior Larry Crawford (Memphis, Tenn./Craigmont). Crawford is one of 113 runners registered for the 200, which begins at 7:15 p.m., Friday. Crawford's best 200 time of the season was a 22.00 second outing at Arkansas.
The Saturday schedule includes the mile and 800-meter run in the morning session and the triple jump, 60-meter dash, 400-meter dash and 4x400 meter relay scheduled for the afternoon session.
Rogers will compete in the triple jump, Saturday, while Crawford competes in the 60-meter dash. Senior Stefan Matschiner (Laakirchen, Austria) will compete in the mile run at 3 p.m., Saturday, while senior Chris Ingram (Memphis, Tenn./East) and junior Kris Harmon (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett) compete in the 400. Sophomore Andre Lucas will be the only other individual Tiger competing when he runs the 800 at 4:50 p.m. Memphis will help close the meet with a team in the 4x400 meter relay at 6:25 p.m.
The Tigers will compete in their final regular season tune-up Feb. 17th at SIU-Carbondale before traveling to Houston for the Conference USA Indoor Championships, Feb. 23-24th.
