Tigers Sign Pauls Pujats

Memphis, Tenn.- Memphis track and field is proud to announce the signing of Latvian pole vaulter Pauls Pujats. The Riga, Latvia native's long list of accomplishment includes winning the 2010 Outdoor Latvian Championships.
"He's dynamite, he's one of the best young vaulters in the world," said head track and field coach Kevin Robinson. "He can't wait to get here, and we can't wait to have him here."
In July of last year, Pujats vaulted his personal best of 5.30m (17-04.50) at the 2011U23 European Championships finishing ninth overall. The following month he would tie his personal best to reach the finals of the 2011 World University games. The previous year he placed sixth at the 13th IAAF World Junior Championships with a height of 5.10m (16-08.75).
Prior to Memphis, Pujats attended Latvian University in Riga, Latvia. Pauls is the younger brother of current Tigers senior, and pole vaulter Karlis Pujats.
