Memphis, Tenn. – With two meets to go before the C-USA Indoor Championships, the University of Memphis track and field teams will travel to Bloomington, Ind., for the Hoosier Hills Invitational on Friday.

The one-day meet will begin Friday evening at 5 p.m. with the men’s and women’s long jump and the women’s 60m hurdles. The schedule of field events concludes at 9:15 p.m. with the men’s shot put competition. The men’s and women’s 4x400m relays are slated to begin at 11:30 and 11:45 p.m., respectively, to close the meet.

“This is a different kind of setup for us since it is an evening meet,” head coach Kevin Robinson said. “It is a little challenging in terms of travel and preparation. The weather played a big role in our training this week and it was not as productive as we would have liked.”

The Tigers will see a banked track surface for the first time this indoor season when they step foot into the Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Indiana. The facility has seen many records fall over the years and Memphis track and field head coach Kevin Robinson expects the Tigers to post improved times this weekend.

“For the first time this year, we are going to get on a banked track and I think the kids on the track, the sprinters up to the mile runners, should respond to being on the banked surface and I think we will see some times start dropping as we back of the training load in preparation of the C-USA Championships. I expect us to do a very good job this weekend. I am looking forward to the athletes on the track in particular to step up on the banked surface. I expect the times to go down and our athletes to be more successful.”

After taking the week off last weekend to increase the training load, senior thrower Steffen Nerdal will once again step away from competition to prepare for the championship meets in late February and early March.

“Steffen is taking the week off again,” Robinson said. “We are trying to keep his head in the right place in terms of preparing for the biggest meets. Other than that, we are pretty healthy. We have a few injuries issues here and there, but nothing that is really going to hold us back.”

Memphis Tiges all-access interviewed sophomore pole vaulter Karlis Pujats and junior sprinter LaShundra Kershaw. The interviews can be seen by clicking here.

Live results of the meet will be available at www.iuhoosiers.com.
