Carbondale, Ill.-- - The University of Memphis men's track team prepped for the Conference USA Indoor Championship Meet with its final regular season meet at Southern Illinois-Carbondale, Friday and Saturday.

Senior Jason Garrison (Memphis, TN/Kirby), last week's C-USA Indoor Track athlete of the week, repeated a win in the men's hammer throw with a toss of 17.40 meters (57-1). Garrison also finished fourth in the shot put with a distance of 16.47 meters (54-0.50), his best shot distance this season.

Two Tigers also won their first events in a Memphis uniform. Freshman Andre Lucas (Toronto, Canada/Michael Power) and sophomore Franck Diadhiou (Ziquinchor, Senegal) each posted their first collegiate wins. Lucas won the 400-meter run with a time of 49.32. Diadhiou posted the third fastest time in the 60-meter dash preliminaries, but upset top seeded Gabriel Helms and second-seeded teammate Larry Crawford (Memphis, TN/Craigmont) to win the 60-meter finals in 6.86 seconds, the third fastest time in C-USA this season. The top three runners were separated by .02 seconds. Crawford finished third in the final in 6.88 seconds and also finished second in the 200 in 22.36.

Freshman Michael Woods (Memphis, TN/Central) also advanced to the 60-meter finals, the third Tiger to do so, after posting the fifth-fastest time in the prelim in 6.96. Woods finished fifth in the finals in 6.98.

Sophomore Delvit Rogers (Memphis, TN/Raleigh Egypt) also improved his previous performance with a win in the triple jump. Rogers again preliminarily qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships by improving his season best jump to 15.75 meters (51-8.25). Rogers is currently ranked second in Conference USA in the triple jump behind UNC Charlotte senior Rephel Martin. Rogers also finished second in the long jump, with a 7.42 meter (24-4.25) leap. Rogers is ranked third in C-USA in the long jump behind Martin and Southern Miss junior Emmanuel Osabutey.

Senior Kevin Foltz (Lansing, Mich./Lansing) also improved on last week's performance. Foltz finished second in the 800 in 1:54.90 and third in the mile in 4:14.10.

Senior decathlete Kevin O'Connell (Collierville, TN./Collierville) continues to prep for the outdoor season. O'Connell finished in the top 15 in three events at the SIU meet. He finished sixth in the 60-meter high hurdles in 8.36, ninth in the pole vault with a 4.40 meter (14-5.25) performance and 14th in the shot with a 13.64 meter (44-9) effort.

The 2000 C-USA Indoor Championships begin Feb. 26th and take place in Chicago, Ill.
