Feb. 14, 2001 Chicago, Ill. - The Conference USA office has selected Memphis junior Delvit Rogers (Memphis, Tenn./Raleigh Egypt) as the Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week. Rogers provisionally-qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships, which will be held at the University of Arkansas, Mar. 9-10. Rogers, who finished fifth at the Iowa State Classic in the long jump with a jump of 7.62 meters (25-00.00), is already automatically qualified for the NCAAs in the triple jump. The Raleigh Egypt graduate is currently ranked sixth in the United States in the long jump in the 25-and-under age group. His jump last year of 8.07 meters (26-5), ranks him 33rd in the world in the event. Rogers is currently ranked ninth in the U.S. with his 53-3 triple jump from the Arkansas meet at the beginning of the season. The United States Track and Field Association (www.usatf.org) tracks the top indoor performances from around the country, and Rogers is ranked ninth in the triple jump. LSU's Walter Davis leads the triple jump performers with a best mark of 55-6.25.
The track and field teams will compete in their final regular season meet, Saturday, at Southern Illinois-Carbondale.
