Track's Edwards Named C-USA Athlete-of-the-Week
Feb. 20, 2007 MEMPHIS - Thrower Glen Edwards was named Conference USA Track and Field Male Athlete-of-the-Week following his performance in the shot put at the Redhawk Invitational last weekend the conference office announced Tuesday. Edwards far exceeded his season best in the shot last Friday, coming away with a mark of 56-8. The distance was good enough to move him to the top of the conference's performance list in the event and into the top flight for the C-USA Indoor Championships this weekend. A native of Baltimore, Md., Edwards came to Memphis last fall after throwing for Barton Community College where he was a Junior College All-American and helped to lead Barton to a Junior College National Championship. Edwards is the second Memphis track athlete to receive C-USA Athlete-of-the-Week honors in the 2007 indoor season, as senior Gail Lee also took home the award. The Tigers now join UTEP as the only team to have both male and female recipients this season. Memphis will be in action this weekend at the C-USA Indoor Championships at the University of Houston's Yeoman Fieldhouse.
