MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Runner Alex Klatt out of Billings, Montana has signed his National Letter of Intent to join the University of Memphis men's track and field team, head coach Kevin Robinson announced on Wednesday.

"Alex is a highly competitive 400m/800m runner," Robinson said. "He will provide us with more relay flexibility, and will be very competitive in several open events as well."

As an athlete at Billings Senior High School, Klatt received varsity letters in track, cross country and basketball. Klatt is a two time state champion in the 800m (2011 and 2012), and was a member of the Billings High 2011 state championship team.

Klatt has received numerous honors in track including USATF All-America 800m (2011), All-State Track, and All-State Cross Country. Klatt has also been honored for his classroom efforts being named All-State Academic in both track and cross country.

The Montana high school product holds career bests of 1:54.56 in the 800m, 50.12 in the 400m and 4:20 in the 1,600m. Klatt is the son of Sally and Bruce Klatt.
