Chicago, Ill.-- - On the strength of three individual championships, the University of Memphis Tigers finished third of the seven teams competing at the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships, Sunday.

Senior Jason Garrison (Memphis, TN/Kirby) was a double medalist for the U of M, winning the conference titles in the weight throw and the shot put. Garrison won the weight throw Saturday and the shot put on Sunday. He posted a season-best 16.81 meter put in the shot.

Junior sprinter Larry Crawford (Memphis, TN/Craigmont) also won a C-USA crown in the 55-meter dash. Crawford's time of 6.26 was enough to provisionally qualify him for the NCAA Indoor Championships at the University of Arkansas, Mar. 10-11. He is the second Tiger to provisionally qualify, as sophomore Delvit Rogers (Memphis, Raleigh-Egypt) is also provisionally-qualified in the triple jump.

Speaking of Rogers, the sophomore fell short in defending his conference long jump title when UNC Charlotte senior Rephel Martin beat him, and the sophomore again was short of Martin in the triple jump, finishing second with a distance of 14.99 meters (49-2.25).

Also capturing a second place finish was senior Kevin Foltz (Lansing, MI/Lansing). The distance runner placed second in the mile with a time of 4:13.22 and seventh in the 800 meters in 1:56.18.

The Tigers finished fifth in last year's championships with two individual titles.

Houston won the conference championship with 150 points, UNC Charlotte was second with 114 and Memphis was third with 96.5. Tulane was fourth with 82 points, Southern Miss fifth with 73 points, Marquette sixth with 65.5 points and host DePaul seventh with 27 points.
