OXFORD, Miss.-University of Memphis track and field squads begin their outdoor season, on Saturday, at the 2014 Ole Miss Open. The meet marks the first of two trips the Tigers will make to Oxford for competition this outdoor season.

"We'll get our feet wet at Ole Miss," head track and field coach Kevin Robinson said. We'll compete well and we'll compete hard and try to figure out where this team is and what we need to do to improve."

After a strong indoor season the Tigers look to return to form for outdoor competition with a strong core of returning athletes on both the men's and women's teams. While the team is looking forward to outdoor competition, it knows the first few weeks of the season will be a challenge.

"We're really looking forward to getting the outdoor season started," Robinson said. "The first couple of weeks we're going to buckle down and do some high volume training to get re-accustom to the outdoor facility and outdoor events."

The meet will be held at the Ole Miss Track and Field Complex which includes a nine lane track with 48" lanes surfaced with Mondo Super X on the track, long jump, high jump, pole vault and javelin areas. Competition is set to begin on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. (CT).

Final results from the meet will be posted on GoTigersGo.com as they are made available.

Experience Counts
In 2013, the Tigers had one of their strongest outdoor seasons sending a combined program-record 19 (nine women and 10 men) athletes to the NCAA postseason. The Tigers return 13 of those NCAA postseason qualifiers for the 2014 season.

On the women's side, Maya Williamson (400m hurdles, 4 x 400m), Monica Mason (4 x 400m hurdles), Sabrina Hochreuther (pole vault), Clara Amat-Fernandez (pole vault), Vivian Brandhoff (shot put) and Britta Jaarats (shot put) return to the mix. For the men, Brandon Williams (400m hurdles), Georgio Lynwood (high jump), Austin Crenshaw (pole vault), Pauls Pujats (pole vault), Luis Hanssler (long jump), Yannik Schaly (shot put) and Kyle Bynum (javelin) return to the fold.

Up Next for the Tigers
Tigers will host the University of Memphis Invitational on March 29 at the Murphy Track and Field Complex. The meet returns to the Park Avenue Campus after a one year hiatus following extensive renovations to the facility.
