Tuscaloosa, Ala.-- - The University of Memphis men's track teams was one of a number of teams competing at the Alabama Relays over the weekend.

Sophomore Delvit Rogers (Memphis, TN/Raleigh Egypt), who provisionally-qualified for the NCAA Championships in two events last weekend, found 45 competitors in the long jump, where he finished third with a jump of 7.64 m (25-00.75).

All the Memphis competitors found lots of competition in their respective events. Senior Jason Garrison (Memphis, TN/Kirby) posted a pair of fourth place finishes in the shot put and the hammer throw. Garrison recorded a toss of 54 meters in the hammer throw (177-02) and a put of 15.76 meters in the shot (51-8.50). Sophomore Justin Garrison (Memphis,TN/Kirby) finished 20th in a pool of 33 competitors in the shot with a put of 13.74 m (45-1).

Junior Jeff LaRusso (Memphis,TN/Christian Brothers) finished sixth in the pole vault, clearing 4.75 m (15-7), while finishing behind competitors from Michigan State and Mississippi State.

Senior Kevin O'Connell (Collierville,TN/Collierville) continues to prepare for the conference decathlon by competing in the field events individually. O'Connell finished 10th in the javelin with a throw of 50.84m (166-9), and 27th in the shot with a put of 12.57m (41-3).

Tiger sprinters found success despite the large crowd as well. Junior Larry Crawford (Memphis,TN/Craigmont) finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.62. Crawford had plenty of competition as there were 75 finishers in the 100, including teammates Franck Diadhiou (Ziquinchor, Senegal), who finished ninth in 10.66, Michael Woods (Memphis, TN/Central), who finished 15th in 10.80, and Travis Bruton (Peoria, Ill./Peoria), who finished 73rd in 11.60.

Crawford again finished in the top 10 of a busy event with a sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash in 20.94. There were 87 finishers in the 200, including Memphis' Diadhiou, who finished 11th in 21.39, Woods, who finished 25th in 21.88 and Bruton, who finished 79th in 23.13.

The Tiger distance runners took the cue from the sprint team and placed well in their events. Sophomore Chris Ingram (Memphis,TN/East) finished 11th in the 400 in 48.49, while freshman Tim Parkes (Memphis, TN/Central) finished 43rd in 51.45. Freshman Andre Lucas (Toronto, Canada/Michael Power) finished 31st in the 800-meter run in 1:54.69, while senior Kevin Foltz (Flushing, MI/Flushing) finished 47th in the 800 (1:56.46) and 12th in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 3:54.43.
