2012-13 Winter C-USA Spirit of Service Award Winners 

MEMPHIS, Tenn.-Junior Justin Pinkston received the 2012-13 Winter Conference USA Spirit of Service Award the league office announced on Tuesday. Pinkston is among 12 athletes from C-USA's member schools to be honored for their community service efforts.

"Justin is very deserving of this award," head track and field/cross country coach Kevin Robinson said. "Justin always has a high level of participation in all of our community service efforts. Not only does he compete in three sports (cross country, indoor, and outdoor track), but he also excels in the classroom, and still finds a way to donate his time and effort to others. I am very pleased to see Justin get recognized in this manner. He is a great representation of this program, and of the athletic department as a whole."

Among his many community service endeavors, Pinkston assisted with Christmas gift distribution for Gift for God's Children, as well as Family Literacy Night at Altruaria Elementary. He also volunteered with Folgelmen Feeds to benefit the Mid-South Foodbank, and helped a at the Children's Museum of Memphis' Holiday Extravaganza and Memphis Halloween bash events.

"Justin is always one of the first people to volunteer for community service," Student-Athlete Development Coordinator Kristin Rusbolt said. "He's very proactive in seeking out community service opportunities and always goes above and beyond in his efforts."

During the indoor track and field season, Pinkston competed in five meets for the Tigers running primarily in the 800m. At the Samford Multi & Invitational, the Memphis, Tenn., native ran a personal-best in the 800m clocking in with a time of 1:57.58. At the John Craft Invitational, Pinkston set a personal-best taking fifth in the 600m in a time of 1:26.22.

Pinkston has also excelled in the classroom being honored twice with the C-USA Academic Medal (2011, 2012). Additionally, Pinkston has been named to the C-USA Commissioners Academic Honor Roll (2011, 2012), The Tiger Academic 30 (Fall 2010), the Tiger 3.0 Club (Fall 2010, Spring 2011, Spring 2012, Fall 2012) and the Dean's List (Fall 2010, Spring 2011, Fall 2011 and Fall 2012).
