Track Team Set for Ole Miss Invitational
April 6, 2007
MEMPHISFor the second straight weekend the Memphis track team will venture to the state of Mississippi as the Tigers are set to compete in the Ole Miss Invitational on Saturday in Oxford. With low temperatures and strong winds in the forecast, Memphis' athletes will have to battle as they continue to seek NCAA qualifying marks.
In addition to the weather, several Tiger athletes are fighting through small injuries. However, the Memphis coaching staff still is expecting quality performances.
"We're a little bit banged up heading into this meet," said Memphis head coach Kevin Robinson. "We've had a few kids come down with some minor injuries, but the ones who are healthy have been training really well."
The men's and women's teams are both still looking for breakout performances from their talented distance squads The groups have yet to qualify anyone for the NCAA Regionals, but several athletes are closing in on their needed times.
"We're coming into that stretch run of the season," Robinson said. "Everyone has to slowly start gearing up now so they can be ready for the conference meet in May."
Saturday's meet will be the last tune up prior to the Sea Ray Relays on April 13, which is the Tigers' biggest meet before the C-USA Championships.
