Schaly Named the American Male Field Athlete of the Week

MEMPHIS, Tenn.-University of Memphis track and field athlete Yannik Schaly was named the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Male Field Athlete of the Week the league office announced on Tuesday.
Schaly took first place in the shot put at the Joey Haines Invitational hosted by SEMO, last Saturday, with a throw of 17.40m (57'1"). The mark currently leads the conference's shot put standings and ranks 31st on the TFRRS.org NCAA East Outdoor Qualifying List.
In just his second year with Memphis, the honor adds to a strong resume that includes three All-Conference honors .The Borgwedel, Germany, native recently won bronze at the American Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship in the shot put. In 2012, he qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary where he finished 17th overall in the shot put with a throw of 17.65m (57'11").
