KNOXVILLE, Tenn.- Lady Tiger distance runner Emily Malinowski shattered the Memphis women's 5000-meter record by 35 seconds to lead the Memphis track team at the Sea Ray Relays on Friday.

Malinowski turned in a 16:48.86 in the 5000 and took a fourth-place finish in an extremely tough field. The time smashed Laura Brewer`s 17:23 10 which has stood since 1979 and qualified Malinowski for her first ever NCAA Regional appearance.

Lady Tiger high jumper Chen Edri tuned in another strong performance, clearing 5-07 in the high jump and finishing in third-place.

On the men's side Norbert Gulyas finished first in the discus in the men's open round with a throw of 165-07. Fellow thrower Glen Edwards was fourth in the men's shot put with a mark of 54-10.

Saturday should provide some strong finishes for Memphis as several of the Tigers and Lady Tigers will be competing in their top events.
