Lawrence, Kan. - University of Memphis senior thrower Steffen Nerdal traveled to the University of Kansas on Thursday to compete in the nationally recognized Kansas Relays.

The three-time All-American posted another record performance with a University of Memphis school record and C-USA leading throw of 69.87m (229-01). Nerdal captured his third-straight first place finish in as many meets during the outdoor season.

“I think Steffen did a heck of a job today,” said head coach Kevin Robinson. “He has been struggling the last couple of weeks with some small technical issues, but he figured out some things today.”

The Norwegian out-threw the field by nearly eight meters. Second place finisher Jason Morris, un-attached, posted a mark of 62.19m (204-00).

“I’m very excited to finally have the feeling of being able to throw,” Nerdal said. “Now, I am very eager to throw again. The last week or two have been a bit discouraging because my marks have been down. I can’t wait to throw again in front of our fans. I am very happy about this opportunity and the support I have.”

Nerdal will return to Memphis to throw on Friday in the hammer and discus throws competition at the Memphis Tiger Invitational. The meet gets underway at 3 p.m. with the men’s hammer throw. Saturday’s events begin at 9 a.m. with several field events.

“I am looking forward to seeing him compete tomorrow at our home meet,” Robinson said. “The short turn around offers a challenge and he will be up for the task at hand.”
