@MemTigersTF_XC Readies for A-State Open
April 24, 2014
JONESBORO, Ark. -University of Memphis track and field squads will take aim at the A-State Open, set for Friday and Saturday, in their final meet before the inaugural American Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
"This is what we consider our final tune-up before the conference championship," head track and field coach Kevin Robinson said. "We are utilizing this event to clean-up the edges, make sure our athletes are sharp and make sure that we are motived and focused."
Day one of the A-State Open begins at 3:00 p.m. (CT) on Friday with the men's and women's hammer and javelin (5:00p.m.), followed by the women's and men's 3000m steeplechase at 7:00 p.m. and 7:20 p.m. respectively. The action resumes on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with a full slate of track and field events set to be competed.
The Tigers are in a unique position scheduling wise as the conference championship is scheduled one week earlier than in recent seasons. With a condensed season, the A-State Open will be a last chance for some athletes looking to improve their seeding and confidence levels going into the championship.
"We need to be sharp," Robinson said. "I feel really good about this team. I feel like we are a very responsible group of young men and women. I feel like when the time comes in Tampa for the conference championship, we will be ready to go. We're going to use this meet as a stepping stone to give them that little bit confidence they might need to propel them for the following week."
Results from the A-State Open will be posted on GoTigersGo.com as they are made available.
Sabrina Hochreuther and Carolina Carmichael are each tied for first in the women's pole vault with a program-record mark of 4.15m (13'7.25"). The duo each cleared the height at last weekend's War Eagle Invitational.
